My Thoughts on Film Criticism

Hey folks, today I want to write a post about something that's been on my mind this past week. That is, the topic of film criticism. I've been watching several YouTube videos on the subject, and I thought I would share my thoughts on it. I think, that just within the past several years, the nature of film criticism has changed. When I was younger, whenever a new movie that me and my family wanted to see came out, my dad and I would look at the written reviews that were possibly written by professional critics for that movie on the internet.

Nowadays I can just get on YouTube, and look at videos of average ordinary movie buffs sharing their basic thoughts on the latest blockbuster. In fact, Roger Ebert once said "Film Criticism is important, because films are important." And, I think that is true Because, I don't think that all of people on YouTube (and other websites) that review movies, are real critics. And yes, I know that I'm not a real critic either. I think that a person who does movie reviews, their obligation is to basically guide people's choices at the box office. For example, I think I do that when I do review, and I give parents a basic recommendation of whether or not they should take their young ones to that movie.

Here are some tips to doing a movie review:

When it comes to doing a review, you should start out by picking a movie that you are interested in seeing (aside from the big blockbusters from Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, etc.), Then when you do your review, provide a basic plot synopsis of the movie, and then your thoughts on the movie. DO NOT, go into anything unnecessary. For Example, you don't need to go into any detail about whatever scandal that either the director, producer, stars, or anyone else that helped make that movie got into. That's called gossip! Don't do it! Years from now, people will look at your review and be like: Wow dude, you hated that person? What about the movie he/she made? Did you like that?"

What are your thoughts on Film Criticism? Let me know on them!

Gemini Man

Rated: PG-13
Runtime: 1 hour 57 minutes
Release Date: October 11, 2019
Director: Ang Lee
Starring: Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Okay, Before I start off with this review, Sorry that there's no Ticket Picture this time, I didn't get a ticket (don't worry, I paid my money) because, the theater was suffering through a internet outage. And, I also forgot to do a out of theater reaction video, so that's not happening this time either!

Now, on with the review. This movie is about A retiring assassin named Henry Brogan (Smith), who finds himself pursued by a mysterious killer. As it turns out, that killer is a clone of himself (Also Smith). Now he needs to find out why the killer is targeting him, and who the creator is. I'm in the middle of the like-ness level on this one. The visuals were great, but the script was weak. Believe it or not, EVERYONE ON YOUTUBE IS SAYING THE SAME THING ABOUT THIS FILM! AND I HAVE TO AGREE WITH THEM! Parents, There is a good amount of gun violence so, I wouldn't recommend this film to young kids.

The Addams Family 2019

Rated: PG
Runtime: 1 hour 27 minutes
Release Date: October 11, 2019
Directors: Greg Tiernan, Conrad Vernon
Featuring: Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz (My Hollywood crush), Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll

This animated version, is based on the classic Charles Addams cartoon about a eccentric, ghoulish family that is creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky, and all together ooky, known as The Addams Family. People, I guarantee that this version is WAY better than the 1991 live-action Addams Family film. Parents, If you want to introduce your little ones to this family, take them to this film. Don't show them the 1991 film, or it's 1993 sequel: Addams Family Values.

A+
